Brad
Sayles
is a musician whose talents extend to both sides of the microphone. As
a composer, he has most recently won the Aurora Award for his score to
"Echoes of Innocence." His compositions occupy the realms of
film and television and perhaps give the best glimpse of his motis as
a musical creator; his love for telling a story through music. While not
all his compositions could be called "programmatic", he is very
much able to invoke scenarios and emotions in his musicmaking.
As chief recording engineer for the National Public Radio affiliate, KUHF in Houston, he is constantly collaborating with conductors such as Hans Graf, Carlos Miguel Prieto, and Michael Krajewski. Academy award nominated sound editor Allen Robert Murray, commenting on Brad's work for the movie Space Cowboys (for which Murray was nominated), praised his expertise as "incredible." Mr. Sayles completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University. During his time at the Moores School of Music / University of Houston, he has held a teaching fellowship in the theory department, produced, engineered, and edited three Moores School recordings, and is now finishing his final year of graduate studies. |

Todd
Hulslander has filled his life and work with music
and sound both as a musician and as an audio recording engineer.
Currently he is spending time in the studio with audio production for The
Front Row, a daily live studio performance broadcast, and time on the road
as executive producer for American Youth Symphonies, a national broadcast
featuring young musicians from around the country. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to run cameras, location sound recording for film and video, record, edit and master a wide variety of CD releases, video post production, sound effect editing and production for numerous web based audio projects and sites. During his time at Smithsonian Productions in Washington D.C., he worked on a wide variety of award winning projects including Jazz Smithsonian; NPR’s Jazz Profiles; Remembering Slavery; and Memphis: Cradle of Rock 'n' Soul. He also has produced exhibit audio and audio tours for the Smithsonian Institution. He was nominated for a Grammy for The Jazz Singers CD collection, and received a George Foster Peabody Award for his work on Mississippi: River of Song. All
of the wonderful music aside, one of his true loves has always been coming
up with just the right sound effect - especially if it means strapping
on his portable recorder and a mic and tramping off to some remote location
to get truly original ‘noises’. |
